Jersey promenade

Jersey and the other Channel Islands continue to rank among the top ranks for the cleanest beaches in Britain. Jersey has nearly 50 miles of beaches and most all are sand but the ones in the north coast. The west is ideal for windsurfing, kitesurfing and surfing while the resort beaches can cater for families with kid’s areas and programmes. There is something for everyone!

The Readers Digest Good Beach Guide has chosen six of Jersey’s beaches to be featured as Britain’s best beaches. Jersey, like Guernsey takes a huge amount of pride in its beaches and water. The beaches are checked daily for trash and the water is constantly being tested for cleanliness. The beaches are impeccable and even the seaweed is routinely collected and given to local farmers to use as compost and fertiliser.

St. Helen’s is a small sheltered beach with no lifeguard and gets sun throughout the day. The sand beach is accessible by path and is part of the coastal walking path. This beach is wonderfully quiet. Archirondel is by St. Martin. This shingle beach is a bit more popular with the crowds, but still does not have lifeguards. There is food and toilets and a small car park. Near St. Helier is Bouley Bay beach. This sandy beach is great for fishing, snorkelling, diving and for kids with small tidal pools to explore.

Sandy Jersey beach

Also near St. Helier is Green Island with a two mile stretch of divine white sand. There are a few reefs that are covered during high tide and excellent tidal pools appear as the tide recedes. This is another excellent snorkelling beach and is absolutely ideal for fun in the sun.

Havre de Pas is a town beach with a promenade and a diving platform. Grouville beach around the south is perfect for wind and water sports and is near great coastal walks. Le Haule by St. Helier and Plemont beach are both recommended sand beaches.

St Pierre du Blois‘s Portelet beach is beautiful. This a popular family beach that allows fishing, windsurfing, hire canoes, dogs on leads, snorkelling and diving. If you love wind/water sports, nothing beats St. Ouens Bay by St. Aubyns. It is the longest beach in Jersey great for swimming, surfing, canoeing, fishing and sun bathing. Here you can hire windsurfing, kitesurfing and surfing gear.
