Time spent outdoors is a time to be near nature, a time to stand in the sun and let the rays recharge your batteries, a quiet time to bond with loved ones and a time for fun! Camping is an absolutely fabulous way to partake in all of the experiences listed above and one of the most brilliant things about camping is that you can make of it whatever you want!
In the UK places like the Lake District, Devon, Cornwall and Somerset are brilliant for camping with tons of campsite options and a host of amenities and features to choose from. Even Jersey and Guernsey out in the Channel are super for camping because they seem a world away, but you can drive to a ferry to one of the islands with all of you own gear!
Of course camping in the Alps is pure heaven. Imagine you are in Chamonix and you wake up peeling back the tent flap and there in front of you in Mont Blanc. The only sounds are birds singing and the wind in your ears and the smell of pine mixed with wildflowers wafts about you. Perfect.
Now, do you prefer rugged camping or posh camping? Tents are so advanced these days that you can have a three room tent with lighting systems and a patio or you can stick to the tried and true triangle. Choose your sleeping bags wisely and be sure that you pack a few things that’ll make your camping experience more comfortable. Little comforts that you don’t require for camping, but might require for your own sanity are very important.
A few questions to ask yourself; What will you be using to cook? How will you organise your gear? What kind of lighting do you require? What will the weather be like? Do you require electricity? What kind of bedding do you wish to bring? Which amenities does your campground provide? Can you bring your dog? Do you have a First Aid kit? Do you have camping chairs?
Part of the fun of camping is planning and packing. There really is something energising about relying on your resourcefulness (and all of the cool new camping kit) when it comes to camping, shedding pretence and living simply- or as simply as you choose!
