Take a short city break to Venice in Italy

Venice - one of the world's greatest pedestrian cities

Did you know that Venice is built atop 100 small islands? Did you know that Venice was home to Casanova? Did you know that Venice is one of Europe’s premier honeymoon destinations? Did you know that Venice is sinking?

Like the natural ebb and flow of life, the Venetian islands rose from the sea and now they are returning to the sea threatening to take the city under with it. In fact, some buildings are already closed and some bottom floors are already boarded up.

What this means is that you need to plan your weekend away to Venice ASAP! There are plenty of cities that claim to the Venice of the North, or the Venice of the East etc. Indeed Venice is so astounding, so striking, so enrapturing that cities like Amsterdam, Hamburg, Budapest, Bangkok, Basra, Bruges, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Saint Petersburg, Manchester and Birmingham all proudly try to be likened to the one and only Venice.

Venice public transport

With so many major cities vying to be like Venice can there be any doubt that the original is mind blowing? Venice’s canals are legendary. Take a cruise and explore the Grand Canal and the city itself. Do be sure to visit some of the drier attractions that have kept Venice on the map like the great Uffizi Gallery, the Venetian Jewish Ghetto, the School of St. Roch, the Rialto area, the Accademia, La Fenice Theatre and of course St. Mark’s Square and the Basilica dei Frari. Fall in love with Venice...
