Take a short skiing break to St. Moritz in Switzerland

Don't miss royal polo match on the frozen lake!
From royal polo matches on the frozen lake to abundant five star hotels and Russian money flying directly into the local airstrip, St. Moritz’s posh credentials are impeccable. But there’s good and varied skiing too, with the advantage that many resort visitors will be intent on celeb-spotting or making the most of plush facilities, leaving the excellent snow to the keen skiers and snowboarders!
Mountain info
St Moritz became a world-famous resort over a century and a half ago. With 400kms of downhill runs, some of them nearly 2kms long, 160 kms of cross-country trails, and an Olympic ski jump, it's among the world's ski capitals. It also hosts the world's oldest ski school.
The Upper Engadine boasts 350km of piste and St Moritz skiing holidays offer 5 main areas; Corviglia, Corvatsch, Furtschellas, Diavolezza and Lagalb. Set at high altitude, the climate is dry and crisp and the snow is reliable. Like Engelberg, Crans Montana and Villars, the lift system is extensive and queues are not considered troublesome.
St Moritz winter exterior
The main ski areas of St Moritz are separate but big enough to stand alone. If you’re happy to ride the punctual buses or drive between areas, you will enjoy the distinctly different slopes of each domain – the extensive, rolling, well-groomed Corviglia pistes; the drama of the high Corvatsch peak followed by big vertical; and the huge descent across the glacier and the steepest slopes of the Diavolleza.

Getting there?
St. Moritz is a few hours away by car and train from Zurich and Milan, but the way to go is by private jet - there's an airstrip just outside of town. If your wallet can’t quite stretch to the private jet, we recommend you check out the usual suspects: Easyjet, Ryanair, BA, Swiss, Bmibaby, Flybe and Thomsonfly. For car rental we recommend ebookers.
Please note that St Moritz also features on our site as a Mountain destination.
